GUNAHON K DEVTA-as aptly titled, is the story of GOOD versus EVIL, but narrated in a totally different way distancing itself from the stories often told on screen.

Raghuveer Singh (Danny), Devil Incarnate, a man totally committed to crime, a man hell bent on - to achieve his goals by any means, by eliminating whoever comes in his way. He with the aid of his elder brother Dawar (Kulbhushan Kharbanda) and a bunch of hoodlums indulge in all kinds of nefarious and illegal activities. To provide circle is letting loose the reign of terror.

But for one man, their entire mission would have gone uninterrupted and unchecked. He is an honest and upright Police Officer, BALDEV RAJ SHARMA (Mithun Chakraborty). He stood like the proverbial ROCK OF GIBRALTOR) in their way. Inspector Baldev succeeds in arresting and sending Dawar in prison. Raghuveer Singh swears vengeance upon him. Raghuveer Singh implicates him in a murder which he had never committed. He was sentenced to life imprisonment by the law. He went to jail leaving his heartbroken wife and ten year old son. The son vows that he will prove the innocence of his father and punish the culprits.

The son grows up to become a smart lawyer - Suraj Baldev Raj Sharma - (Young Mithun Chakravborty), finds a good friend in Police Inspector Shilpa (Sujata Mehta) who is after the blood of Raghuveer Singha and party. Meanwhile Dawar escapes from jail but Suraj and Shilpa are on his t trail. Advocate Khanna's son Sunny (Aditya Pancholi) who never got parental love or affection is on the brink of self-destruction. But he was saved by Inspector Shilpa on the nick of time and eventually they fall in love with each other. One day Destiny brings him to the help of Suraj who was being beaten up by Raghuveer's henchmen - thus a friendship blossoms. Sunny finds a true brother in Suraj and a mother in suraj's mother.

Meanwhile Suraj and his mother fall prey to a brother and sister team (Shakti Kapoor and Sangeeta Bijlani) of petty swindlers. But Suraj catches up with them and bares them in public. The beautiful and clever sister Bijli traps Suraj with her charm and he falls in love with her. Suraj, Sunny, Shilpa, Bijli and Shakti form a group and swear to eliminate Raghuveer Singha nd his brother Dawar alias Goenka and trap advocate Khanna (Paresh Rawal). Goenka is arrested again by Shilpa with others' help and again sent to prison. They then embark upon Advocate Khanna with a deliberate and cunning plan, setting a thief to catch a thief. Khanna is caught in the web of his own deception. Now Raghuveer Singh is after Khanna's blood. Suraj produces proof of his father's innocence. Goenka again escapes from jail - the result of a master plan by Suraj and friends.
